The foreground is 5th Avenue, converging toward the Empire State Building — the icon of capitalism itself. In the middle, a naked man is swept away by slashes of green and gold: the dollar, the fame. He sinks into the pavement, struggling to climb toward the white island of sanity, lit by a streetlight above. His right hand pushes against the ground. His left reaches upward — not for God, but for his own determination. The shadow of his will reaches back, almost touching his hand — like Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, where God and Adam reach for each other, but here, there is no God. Only the man, and his own will to rise. This is the reality of New York: many are swept away by the dream, but some survive. This is the artist's journey — his own higher determination.
